DJI’s Mavic series continues to innovate and improve with the Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced drone, a portable and powerful thermal drone solution ideal for search and rescue, firefighting, law enforcement, infrastructure inspection and environmental monitoring applications.

The Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced is a high-resolution dual-camera drone with industrial-grade thermal imaging capabilities. It is a compact and lightweight thermal drone solution for enterprise users.

Evolution of the Mavic Series

The evolution of DJI’s Mavic series has been a long and successful one. The first of the series, Mavic Pro, was launched in 2016 to provide filmmakers, photographers, journalists, and enthusiasts with a high-quality aerial imaging device. It paved the way for DJI drones to reach new heights in quality while maintaining affordability. The original Mavic Pro has seen many upgrades to its design, safety features, and camera quality.

In 2018, DJI launched the Mavic 2 Enterprise Series designed to balance portability and functionality for enterprise users in industries like public safety, construction, infrastructure, emergency first-responders and others. The Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced released by DJI in early 2021 offers a significant upgrade in imaging capabilities compared to previous Mavic 2 Enterprise Dual and Enterprise Zoom models.

Let’s take an in-depth look at the Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced.

Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced Features

Design Features

The Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced has a lightweight design that is highly versatile with a maximum take-off weight of 1100g when equipped with add-on accessories. Its portable design allows for deployment in less than a minute, and it can operate in complex environments. The drone is foldable, just like its predecessors. Its physical design and dimensions are also similar to the previous models.

Safety Features

DJI has equipped the Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced with reliable safety features allowing pilots to fly with confidence. The Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced has an omnidirectional obstacle-sensing system for safer flights and detecting obstacles during flight.

The drone has DJI’s AirSense technology built-in to give drone pilots better situational awareness and help them make responsible decisions while flying. Flight data is sent automatically from nearby aircraft with ADS-B transmitters, analyzing it to detect potential collision risks and alert users well in advance.

Performance Features

The Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced can fly for up to 31 minutes, and it has a maximum transmission range of 10 kilometres. The transmission range makes it ideal for search and rescue operations to help locate people. The drone’s fast ascent speed of up to 6m/s and descent speed of 5m/s allows for rapid deployment by first responders during emergencies. The drone can fly at speeds of up to 72 kilometres per hour in sports mode without any winds. It can also operate in temperatures from -10°C to 40°C.

Camera Features

The Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced has two cameras. One of them is a 48MP visual camera that has a 1/2” sensor for capturing high-resolution images. Pilots can keep the drone away from structures by taking advantage of the camera’s 32x digital zoom. This camera also captures high quality 4K videos. In low-light conditions, the camera performs well.

High-resolution thermal images can be captured with the 640 × 512 px thermal camera at a 30Hz frame rate, making it ideal for exact temperature reading of objects. Again, this camera allows for a 16× thermal zoom, making inspections safer without getting too close to the target. The thermal resolution on the Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced is comparable to the one on the Zenmuse H20T camera.

The dual camera allows pilots to take both visual and thermal images at the same time. Pilots can also switch between visual and thermal camera feeds or have the option to have both views side-by-side. This is a welcome feature that allows for real-time decision-making by the pilots. The dual camera operates on a three-axis gimbal for smooth image stabilization and video footage even when the drone is moving at top speeds.

This is how the Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced's camera compares with the previous Mavic 2 Enterprise models.

Add-on Accessory Features

An RTK (real-time kinematic) module can be mounted on the Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced for centimetre-level positioning accuracy and for aerial operations where precision is required. It is the only model in the series compatible with the RTK module.

Like the previous Mavic 2 Enterprise models, a speaker, spotlight and beacon are compatible with the Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced. For night operations or low light conditions, the spotlight accessory lights up the way. The beacon helps to indicate the aircraft's location at night. The speaker can store multiple voice recordings and play clips on loop and allow the command centre to speak to ground teams during emergencies for efficient operations.

Conclusion

DJI Mavic 2 Enterprise Advanced is a portable and powerful thermal drone solution for multiple industrial applications. DJI is continuing with its mission to enable businesses to make the future possible with drone technology. It offers a safe, reliable, functional, and easy to use thermal drone solution.
